The Growth Choice
Sun/07/03 2010
Today’s message is called “The Growth Choice” and I mentioned the example of the Winter Olympics because I believe at least in some ways every Christian is an athlete in competition. Not in competition with others but we are certainly competing with ourselves. And interestingly enough, it was this analogy of an athlete in training that the aging Apostle Paul used when he penned the words to a much younger athlete named Timothy. Paul said that he “had fought the good fight, finished the race and kept the faith” and was about to be awarded a “crown of righteousness” (which in my opinion far exceeds the value of a gold medal). So today’s message is about choosing to grow so you can compete for a lifetime. Choosing to grow so you can finish strong. Choosing to grow so you can win your own crown of righteousness.Listen to this week's podcast or download the .mp3 file to your computer.
The Relationship Choice
Sun/28/02 2010
This morning is week six of a series of eight messages that we’ve called “Life’s Healing Choices.” The underlying premise of this series is that life is the culmination of the collective choices that we make day-to-day, week-to-week, month-to-month, and year-to-year. Fortunately, most of us are not defined by one or two choices that we make in a lifetime. But our ability to make good choices in our journey of life will have a positive impact upon us as well as those we are in relationship with. The Hope Choice
Sun/31/01 2010
And our focus is on those situations in life and seasons of life that require God to step into our world to give us hope and comfort. I’m speaking of those moments in our life where we need God to either whisper in our hearts that everything is going to be okay when it looks just the opposite or to powerfully step into our world and reorder circumstances. Jesus says in this second “beatitude”, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” In other words, “Blessed are those that have come to the end of their rope and have no recourse but to believe God will show up in their behalf.”Listen to this week's podcast or download the .mp3 file to your computer.
Reality Choice
Sun/24/01 2010
HOW WE PLAY GOD1. We try to control our IMAGE by wearing masks, playing games, and hiding
the truth.
2. We try to control OTHER PEOPLE by manipulating each other through guilt
or shame or praise or even through silence.
3. We try to control our PROBLEMS by saying things like: “I can handle it; it’s
not really a problem. I don’t need any help. I can quit anytime.”
4. We try control our PAIN by avoiding it, denying it, escaping it, medicating it,
drowning it, or postponing it.
