The Comforter

The Holy Spirit comes to us with purpose. There are many ways that reality finds expression, but Isaiah 61 gives us great insight. The focus of the Spirit’s power is upon the poor, the brokenhearted, the captives, those in darkness, and all who mourn and are in despair.  In other words, one vital reason the Holy Spirit comes with grace and power is to provide healing and restoration to the human condition…to specific individuals that have brokenness tattooed upon their hearts and layered within their lives.
Isaiah 61:4 reads…
“They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor. They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.”
“Lord Jesus, send the Holy Spirit this weekend… every weekend… to our services… in both grace and power… and exchange our hurt with healing. Where there is lack, give provision. Take despair and depression and provide joy and celebration. Give recovery for the bruised. To the lonely and isolated, establish family, acceptance and belonging. Drive division away and put unity in its place. Remove bondage and addiction and give freedom. Give revelation to those who do not yet believe. For the weary, give rest. For those with broken dreams and wayward children, give hope. And for all of us, Lord, make us into an army of builders… building the church… exchanging the devastation around us for a city where the gospel is embraced… providing a setting for future generations to know the Living God… and expanding Your kingdom upon this earth.  In Jesus name, Amen.”
