When I was at Hillsong Leadership College way back in 2004, I was privileged to be a part of some pretty amazing things… album recordings, Hillsong Conference, weekend services, and more. But one thing that still sticks out to me was their annual Colour Your World Conference. Now called Colour Sisterhood, they celebrate 20 years in 2016!
What I remember the most about Colour was the sound that I could hear coming from the main auditorium as I worked throughout the building (because… Bible College… #lackey ;) ). The eruption of laughter, the emotion of freedom, and the overall sense of women joining together as one was a force to be reckoned with. I would watch women walk into this conference with a certain countenance, then watch them walk away with a whole new identity! It was incredible! And what I remember thinking the most during that time was, ‘I will do something like that one day’. Not for notoriety sake, but for the sake of women discovering that they are more than what society says… They are daughters of a King. Daughters of One who says they are everything; that they are enough. They are so enough.
Now here we are, 12 years removed from my first Colour experience (which I get to go back to in May in NYC!! HELLO?! Dying! :)), and just a few weeks from RISE; a weekend at Christ’s Chapel for women that will shatter the thought that women hate each other. How?? I’m so glad you asked ;) Rise will exist to empower women in our church and community to be better, together. We were never meant to live life on our own, without people around us to encourage us, hold us, and kick us in the butt when we need it!
There is a shift that occurs when a bunch of women get together… Not to eat salad, do hair, or paint their nails (although all of that sounds lovely), but to speak life over one another, pray, worship, and heal.
That’s my prayer for this conference. That the Lord will do something so insane in our hearts that the very atmosphere we live in, will change. Addicts will be released from their chains, women in every sphere of life will begin to see their value, marriages will be strengthened, single girls will be empowered toward greatness, mothers will parent out of love and not fear, and we will all rise… to stand firm and love fiercely.
